Hit

Used when searching databases to indicate the number of records which have been found that meet the specified search criteria. When referring to the world wide web the meaning is not very clearly defined but a hit can be regarded as a single request to a particular web site on a server. Hit rates thus can give useful details of the usage of web sites and the numbers of times different pieces of information held on the site are accessed.
