Installing software under Microsoft Windows

Most installation CDs are designed to run automatically from Microsoft Windows 95/ 98 and Windows 2000 Operating Systems. With Windows running, insert the CD containing the installation program into the drive and the Operating System will automatically run a feature program known as the Autorun from the CD. Setup options are then displayed on-screen providing the user with the opportunity to install the software from the CD with a click of the mouse. For some CDs and all floppy disk installations, the Autorun program may not function, so the procedure is to use the Run command line, accessed through the start menu. Type setup or install, and press OK as illustrated below.

Once the installation has started the installer should follow the on-screen prompts.

More information on installing an operating system is given in Unit 4 - Operating System Support.
