Hardware components of the PC
The parallel port is a standard input/ output interface that manages eight bits of data at a time. Typically a printer is connected through this port, but a wide range of peripheral devices are designed to operate through it, including external storage devices, tape backup devices, and portable devices. The original parallel port specification known as Standard Parallel Port (SPP) could transfer data at a mere 80 KB per second. The Enhanced Parallel Port (EPP) and the Extended Capabilities Port (ECP) could both transfer data between 300KB and 3MB per second. All three specifications are identical in physical appearance. The appearance of a parallel port can be described as a female 25-pin D-type connector. |
