Hardware components of the PC Extended Industry Standard Architecture (EISA), (pronounced ee-eye-sa) is the name of an interface bus design that was popular with servers system. EISA provides a 32-bit wide data bus capacity, allowing for a greater data transfer rate than the ISA 16-bit bus. An EISA motherboard slot is designed in two sections, a top half and a bottom half. The top section is compatible with an ISA slot, while the bottom section can only be used with an EISA adapter. The edge connector of an EISA adapter has a greater number of pins to cater for the 32-bit wide data bus and twice the depth as an ISA adapter to allow connection into the bottom section of the EISA slot. |
