Hardware components of the PC The internal speed of RAM circuits is rated in ns (nanoseconds - one-thousandth of a microsecond, 10-9 seconds). The lower the speed the better the performance because the speed relates to the time it takes for a single bit of data to be delivered to the processor. RAM components rated at 60ns requires 60 nanoseconds to deliver the necessary data. DIMs can be specified as PC100 and PC133, the numbers refer to the speed used on the motherboard -100MHz and 133MHz. There are some DDR RAM hat can run on a 150MHz motherboard, giving a speed of 300MHz. |
